Successful restaurant lighting considerations

LAUK works extensively within the restaurant sector across the world and our approach to perfect lighting design hinges on a number of factors - atmosphere, practicality, focus and security.

Lighting must create the right ambience with a mood and tone that complements the restaurant brand. Low level lighting obviously creates a more intimate space whereas bold, bright lighting suits a different kind of dining experience altogether.

On a practical level, we identify areas that require different solutions. Kitchen areas, toilets, corridors, walkways, stairs, for example, all require different treatments. We can introduce focus here, to combine with the important drive to maximise sales, so people know where the bar is (sounds obvious), where waitress service can be found, to easily see and identify drinks available, to see your food and so on.

And safety and security are also key. Car parks, exterior lighting and lighting to show the way through a restaurant all add up to a carefully considered scheme.

Getting this right is borne out of a mixture of common sense overlaid with experience. This is gained through a deep understanding of lighting output levels, combining lighting types, adding light treatments (shades and other devices) to create the perfect overall, complete package.

It's what we do so if you'd like to know more, do get in touch.
