Save money and upgrade your lighting by choosing products on the government's ETPL (Energy Technology Product List)

Upgrading your lighting in line with government preferences for energy efficiency could pay dividends as you can claim 100% tax relief against a whole range of energy-efficient products including, of course, LED light fittings. It's important to note that this is allowable for the fittings and the cost of the fittings and not the lamps themselves. It is an excellent scheme, especially for any business thinking of improving their lighting and introducing energy-saving initiatives to reduce longer-term overheads.

"The ETL (or Energy Technology Product List, ETPL) is a government-managed list of energy-efficient plant and machinery, such as boilers, electric motors, and air conditioning and refrigeration systems that qualify for full tax relief. It is part of the Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) tax scheme for businesses. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) annually reviews the technologies and products that qualify for inclusion. The ETL is managed on behalf of BEIS by the Carbon Trust."

"The scheme allows businesses to write off the entire cost of any product included on the list against taxable profits."
